Roanoke Helps to Further Careers in Transportation & Logistics Industry with Sponsorship of NCFBAA’s Annual $5,000 College Scholarship

Roanoke Trade, a leader in providing custom insurance solutions for transportation and logistics providers, is honored to be sponsoring the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America, Inc.’s (NCBFAA) annual $5,000 scholarship. The scholarship is available to a high school seniors or undergraduates at an accredited college or university. This is the 23rd year that the NCBFAA and Roanoke Trade have promoted this scholarship competition as a way to further education in the transportation and logistics industry. NCBFAA represents nearly 800 member companies with 100,000 employees in international trade – the nation’s leading freight forwarders, customs brokers, ocean transportation intermediaries (OTIs), NVOCCs and air cargo agents, serving more than 250,000 importers and exporters.

The scholarship winner will be invited to the NCBFAA Annual Conference, scheduled to be held at the JW Marriott Starr, Tucson, AZ, April 17 – 20, 2016, and will join the other conference attendees on the morning of April 18 to receive the Award. The $5,000 scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient’s college or university.

To qualify for the scholarship, student applications, which were due by January 5, 2016, were required to submit a 1,000 – 2,000 word essay.  To be judged by a panel of experts, the essay’s topics is on “Wage Inequality and Trade – Data indicates a growing gap between the wages for skilled and unskilled labor. What role has trade and immigration played in this process? What policies, if any, should the U.S. take to offset this trend?”

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must be an employee, or child of an employee, of a regular NCBFAA member, but may not own a company involved in the industry. In addition, the candidate must be pursuing a career in customs brokerage, freight forwarding or a related field, such as international trade.
