eBond deployed successfully on January 4, 2015. While the system is working efficiently, there are a few loose ends and issues that have arisen. For the next several weeks, the eBond Working Group[1] meets to discuss the issues and address solutions. We will keep you updated on any new developments. How do I know which STB filing method to choose? We created the following flyer in December which explains the various scenarios for filing of STBs. This same information was provided in CSMS Message 15-000018. Bottom line, only ACE cargo release transactions require an eSTB. If there is an ACS cargo […]
We received notification from USCIB that there are new procedures for hand-carried diamonds entering Israel on an ATA Carnet, effective January 15, 2015. However, the instructions provided in handling the ATA Carnet validation and the merchandise are unclear. In the meantime, the Israeli guaranteeing association is checking with their authorities and we hope to receive clarification as soon as possible. Until further notification please be advised that the following is what USCIB understands to be the new procedures: 1. Freight Contracts Modified to Meet Ebola Exposure Trade associations within the shipping industry are changing their freight contracts to lower loss exposure for companies transporting cargo or traveling to countries affected by Ebola. The new contracts are designed to protect crews from contracting the virus and can lead to rerouting, delays and quarantines in port. Intertanko, an association whose members own most of the global tanker fleet, has implemented an Ebola clause in its contracts stipulating its members’ ships will seek alterative ports of call should a risk to the health of the crew be identified. Charterers would be liable […]
CBP has confirmed that emailing of bond images will not be necessary for any ISF single transaction bond (“Appendix D Bond”) filed as an eBond. Because the ISF number must still be included on an ISF STB, there remain two steps to create the bond. As before, you first enter the basic bond information in FastBond™ to obtain a surety reference number to transmit to CBP with the ISF. You then go back into FastBond™ to insert the ISF number […]

Continue to use FastBond™ to issue your bonds and contact Roanoke to process riders and terminations. NEW: Look for the “My Issuing Authority” link on the left bar of the FastBond™ Issue Bond screen; notice that expanded authority on STBs for foreign principals has been provided. We will also be conducting an eBond webinar tomorrow at 1:00 PM CST. […]
Self-Driving Trucks Shift Cargo Strategy If you plan to be in business in 15 years, you need to start planning for the impact of self-driving trucks. The goal of this high-tech industry is to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while increasing highway safety. As the technology evolves, more driverless functions, or driver-assist add-ons, will be installed in commercial vehicles until finally—estimates are 2025 or so—truly driverless trucks will be road ready. “Wireless platooning” is one advancement that could roll out soon in a pilot phase. Platooned trucks drive in tandem, one following at a pre-set, but very close, distance using […]
